ARE INSPIRATION BOARDS A THING? MAKE ONE

I must admit, until this year I had NEVER been tempted to build one of these boards.  Sure, I’d pretty  much always compiled lists of goals and targets for my business and life….that seemed pretty normal, right?  Once I began to take notice of this practice, I was intrigued.  It wasn’t until a friend of mine, Christine, came over and announced that we were going to create inspiration boards for the rest of the day did I commit (or was blindsided…or talked into it….).  Armed with too many magazines to count, the process begins.  I kept repeating “I’ve never done this….isn’t this for 20 year old bloggers???”.  The rules were simple: just cut out anything that resonates with you.  No limits (this is always my kind of thing!).

Now, you are thinking….can I make one of these for my goals and dreams?  The answer YES!  Here are some hacks to making it easy and fun!  And, of course, wine is mandatory…..in case you were wondering:)

Thinking about what the overall personality or vibe of your board will be AND finding all the images THEN printing them off, taping or tacking them up — can take more time than expected and leaves me feeling exhausted and/or frustrated.

DEFINE YOUR LOOK:

When I thought about my inspo board I wanted clean but colorful and motivating as well as having cool fonts and images that were #goals.  I wanted my desk area to invoke feelings of mass creativity and uniqueness, not your typical “pink & gold” inspo board you’ve seen on every. single. blog. this year.  It should reflect your personality.

GATHER YOUR IMAGES:

I started with ads and photos from familiar magazines and just found random things in daily life that gave me a bit of inspiration.  I had about 50 pictures cut out laying in front of me.   Some people like to use Pinterest and “copy” and “print” these to use.  I like the different textures of the paper – the glossy vs. the matte printed paper.  You don’t have to be concerned about what they are or how they go together.  You just have to smile when you see them.

USE TEXTURE IF YOU LIKE:

Adding elements of fabric or small trinkets, like pom-poms or a single flower held by a tack, can elevate your board to a new level of quality AND inspiration. Ha! I think an inspiration board looks coolest when there are more than just images to draw your inspiration from.

LAY PHOTOS OUT BEFORE YOU GLUE OR TACK:

When you are incorporating texture as mentioned above, grab some cool washi tape or push pins that you like. Arrange your images on your desk or a flat surface to where they look to you – I arranged mine so there was a photo next to a text image mixed with blocks of color in between, my style is to make the board look like it flows. BUT you can design it in whatever way inspires you, that is the point of the board after all, right?

BE FUN AND CREATIVE!

Remember being young and thinking everything was open to silliness and smiles?  Do that here!  Step back & admire while being inspired.   Stand back and admire your work and them.  PLLLLEEEEEAAAASSSSEEEE send me a pic when you are done……would love to post it!  You can always add & take away from your board so keep the inspo flowing!

I was truly shocked that I LIKED doing it!  At first, my thought was “what a waste of time….I could be doing something productive….” But, three hours into it……I actually enjoyed putting this project together, that I’ve decided to do another inspiration board.   I’d love to hear if you have anything to add to these tips. I’m new to the inspo board game and would love to hear from you after you’ve completed your board!  I don’t know whether or not I will make another…….but I am not ruling it out!

My web site looks weird when browsing from my apple iphone.
I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to
correct this issue. If you have any suggestions, please share.
